If your email account is hosted by CLUB View (using our server mail.clubview.co.uk) you may occasionally hear from people who have tried unsuccessfully to email you. This article explains why someone who has sent you an email may receive an automated response saying their message could not delivered, and giving the error code "550 Invalid DKIM".
DKIM is an authentication system to prevent ‘spam’ or tampering with emails, verifying that the email is really from who it claims to be from, and that the contents have not been changed in transit. Our mail server rejects messages that fail DKIM authentication.
Legitimate emails may still be rejected, however, if their DKIM signature has become invalid en route. This is usually due to a misconfiguration in the sender's email service, but can sometimes be due to software on the sender's computer (e.g. some anti-virus products) modifying the email after it has been sent.
Rejections of emails from @btinternet.com addresses
As of June 2017 we are aware of a problem with a certain proportion of messages set from '@btinternet.com' email addresses. Our system is detecting invalid DKIM signatures, but only on messages that reach us via specific BT email servers. (Messages that happen to get routed to us via different BT servers are not affected, and will be delivered without a problem, hence the apparent random or sporadic nature of the problem.) The problem BT servers are:
- rgout07.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0701.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0702.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0703.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0704.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0705.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0706.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
- rgout0707.bt.lon5.cpcloud.co.uk
CLUB View is attempting to contact BT Internet to address this, but we also recommend that clubs tell any btinternet.com users who encounter this problem to report it to BT's email help desk too. It may help to send them a link to this article.
Work-around for "Invalid DKIM" errors
If someone is having problems emailing the club because of “invalid DKIM” errors they should first try to fix the problem by speaking to their email provider, as it is likely that it is not just CLUB View that will be rejecting some of their messages. You can, however, configure your email to bypass DKIM checks for some senders, by adding that email address to your CLUB View webmail 'spam whitelist':
1: log into mail.clubview.co.uk with your email username and password (if you not know your email password please contact the person or company that looks after the club's IT, if they set up your email for you, or otherwise contact CLUB View support);
2: click on the "Settings" tab at the top of the screen;
3: click on "Anti-Spam Settings" on the left hand navigation;
4: add the email addresses into the text box under "Whitelist senders" (you can add multiple addresses by putting each on a new line);
5: click "save settings".
